While no matches were added to the card of Clash at the Castle this week, Monday Night Raw produced a great show which featured an unexpected return.

Welcome to WWE Weekly Round-Up, where The Inner Sanctum will take you through this week’s most pivotal moments on WWE television and preview what shapes to be a huge week ahead.

Johnny Gargano makes a surprise return

Since Triple H became the Head of Creative, it was speculated that several talent who had been released from the old administration would eventually make their returns to WWE. Stars like Karrion Kross, Dexter Lumis, IYO SKY and Dakota Kai all made their way back to the company, and it seemed like the returns weren’t going to stop.

One name that was on everybody’s mind was Johnny Gargano, who left WWE in December last year before becoming a free agent. He was greatly admired by Triple H and was used as a prominent figure in NXT.

Discussion between the fans kept occurring and many were wondering if he would follow suit by returning to the company. He had previously stated that he didn’t know what was next for his career, but his focus was being a father to his newborn.

However, his remarkable return finally came to fruition on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.

Gargano’s much-loved theme, Rebel Heart rang through the PA after a random commercial break to the joy of the Toronto crowd.

While delivering a heartfelt promo and revealing his dreams of achieving big goals in WWE, he was interrupted by Mr. Money In The Bank and former friend, Theory.

The two have a history dating back to NXT, when they were both apart of “The Way”. Theory wanted to reunite with Gargano, but the former was denied as Johnny Wrestling delivered an emphatic superkick to the rising star.

It now begs the question of the role Gargano will have on Monday Night Raw, whether that is pursuing Bobby Lashley’s United States Championship or reconnecting with former tag team partner, Ciampa.

However, he now looks to be locked in a short-term rivalry with Theory and the two could potentially have a singles match at WWE’s next Premium Live Event, Clash at the Castle.

Edge wrestles first match in Toronto in 10 years

Monday Night Raw in Canada was a tremendous episode and concluded with Damien Priest colliding against the Rated-R Superstar, Edge. It was the latter’s first match in Toronto in 10 years and the crowd was firmly behind him to reach victory.

Edge had been feuding with Damien Priest and The Judgment Day, ever since the group betrayed their former leader back in June and The rivalry between the two parties looks like it will not be ending anytime soon.

After a grueling match with weapons involved, Edge was victorious to the elation of the attendance. Shortly after the match ended, the Rated-R Superstar attempted to hit a con-chair-to on his opponent before Rhea Ripley of Judgment Day hit the victor with a low blow.

The assault then forced Edge’s wife, Beth Phoenix to enter the fray by threatening to attack Ripley with a steel chair. It now looks like she will be involved in the feud, leading to a potential mixed tag-team match at Clash at the Castle.

The speculated match before Monday Night Raw was Edge taking on Finn Balor at Cardiff, but that could be off the table if Phoenix were to make an in-ring appearance. Her last match was at this year’s Royal Rumble event, where she and her husband took on The Miz and Maryse.

After Monday Night Raw went off the air, Edge said a few words in the ring and stated how he wants to have his final match in Toronto next year.

Many fans have now voiced their desire to have SummerSlam 2023 take place at the capital of Ontario, with Edge competing against long-time rival, John Cena before making his genuine in-ring retirement.

Women’s Tag Team Title tournament final set

For the past couple of weeks, the Women’s Tag Team title tournament has unfolded to crown new champions following Sasha Banks and Naomi’s vacancy. Next week on Raw, the final will take place.

One of the red brand’s hottest stables in Dakota Kai and IYO SKY will battle Smackdown’s Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah. The latter defeated Natalya and Sonya Deville to advance, while SKY and Kai overcame current rivals, Asuka and Alexa Bliss.

Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne of Toxic Attraction were originally scheduled to compete against Rodriquez and Aliyah in the semi-final and were touted to make the finals instead. However, Dolin suffered an injury and the duo was unfortunately withdrawn from the tournament.

It is widely predicted that Bayley’s associates, SKY and Kai will become the brand new Women’s Tag Team Champions and continue their dominant form on Monday Night Raw.

The group have been booked strongly since forming at SummerSlam, but Sasha Banks and Naomi could make their long-awaited returns and stake a claim to hunt the titles they never lost.

It would not be surprising, considering the people who have made their way back to WWE under Triple H’s administration.
