Coming out of Extreme Rules last week, all of the attention was on the returning Bray Wyatt and what he was going to do on either Raw or Smackdown. The WWE Universe had to wait nearly seven days, as he appeared on the blue brand and cut a promo to close the show.

Welcome to the WWE Weekly Round-up, where The Inner Sanctum will take you through this week’s most pivotal moments on WWE television and preview what shapes to be a huge week ahead.

Wyatt was the huge talking point in WWE this week, but there were also some unexpected returns on Raw and the emergence of a new number-one contender for Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship.

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows return to reunite with AJ Styles

For weeks, Finn Balor has attempted to persuade AJ Styles to join The Judgment Day and it looked like it was finally going to happen on Monday Night Raw. However, The Phenomenal One fooled Balor and realigned with the returning duo of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.

Recently, Balor has felt that Styles is in need of backup and wanted to provide that for him by bringing him in The Judgment Day. Although he had always refused, The Phenomenal One looked to have conceded to his long-time friend on Raw.

After Styles seemed like he was going to join Balor’s group by bowing and hugging him, he instead said his backup is Anderson and Gallows. The two made their way to the ring, before all members of both parties engaged in a brawl.

The Judgment Day were caught by surprise, as The O.C was reunited and had now kickstarted a feud with Balor’s faction. It has now opened the door as a possibility for the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series.

The return of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows also poses an interesting situation, as the former is the current NEVER Openweight Champion. Talent employed by WWE haven’t been allowed to perform for other companies, but this could now mean there is an agreement or potential partnership with NJPW.

Seth Rollins wins United States Championship with assistance from Brock Lesnar

It may seem like a strange headline, but an unexpected Brock Lesnar return on Monday Night Raw set the stage for Seth Rollins to become the new United States Champion.

A match between the Almighty and Visionary for the former’s title was confirmed last week, with a lot of fans wondering why it was booked in the first place. It made less sense post-Extreme Rules, when Rollins lost to Matt Riddle and should have never entered the title match without any momentum.

Fast forward to Raw, Lashley entered the ring and listed the names he has defeated until the Beast Incarnate confronted the former champion. Lesnar then delivered an attack to the Almighty and badly hurt his arm with his brutal kimura lock.

As Lashley was being escorted away from the ring by officials, Rollins arrived and still pleaded for his title match. The former champion wasn’t acknowledging his request, until the Visionary called him a disgrace to the United States after serving in the military for three years.

Lashley then agreed to the match, although he was nowhere near 100 percent to compete. Soon enough, Rollins won the United States Championship after hitting two emphatic curb stomps on his opponent.

It can be said that the Visionary deserves this title reign, after not holding a championship for over two years and putting over multiple people in that period, like when he conceded three consecutive losses to Cody Rhodes.

Next week on Raw, Bobby Lashley is seeking redemption and has asked Brock Lesnar to confront him face-to-face. The Beast Incarnate should disclose why he attacked the Almighty, as the two are more than likely going to have their second ever one-on-one match against each other at Crown Jewel.

Rey Mysterio earns a surprise Intercontinental Title shot

A fatal-4-way match to determine the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship was made official before Smackdown, which would include Sheamus, Solo Sikoa, Ricochet and Karrion Kross.

However, Kross was removed from the contest after he was involved in a car accident prior to Smackdown, before suffering a vicious attack from Drew McIntyre. Rey Mysterio was declared his replacement, after telling Triple H he wished to quit WWE due to the impact of losing his son to The Judgment Day.

The Head of Creative wished to strike a deal with Mysterio and wanted to keep him in the company, not only offering him a spot in the number one contenders match, but also drafting the Luchador to the blue brand from Monday Night Raw.

The match took place right before the conclusion of Smackdown and consisted of interferences from both Sami Zayn and Jey Uso of The Bloodline, as well as Butch and Ridge Holland of The Brawling Brutes. As a result, both Sheamus and Sikoa were removed from the equation and the winner would come down to either Ricochet or Mysterio.

The three-time world champion was then able to seize a future title opportunity, after delivering a 619 and frog splash to Ricochet. It is not known when he will collide against Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship, but it is refreshing to see Mysterio in this role after a long-term feud with The Judgment Day.

Bray Wyatt makes first appearance since Extreme Rules in emotional fashion

Friday Night Smackdown this week ended with the much-anticipated arrival of Bray Wyatt, six days after making his incredible comeback at Extreme Rules. The WWE Universe were eager to hear what he had to say, as he delivered a promo that had an emotional connection with the fans.

He broke character and spoke genuinely to the people in attendance, after walking down the stage with his signature lantern to a tune that you wouldn’t really associate Wyatt with. He talked about what he had lost since he was last with WWE, including two people that were close to him.

Wyatt admitted that he never thought he would be back with the company again and thanked the WWE Universe for always persisting with him and reigniting his passion. However, he was interrupted by a character in the titantron who was wearing the same mask he was at Extreme Rules.

The character, whose voice sounded like Wyatt’s but distorted, said that Bray’s life is done and that he will find out who he is really dealing with. It is an intriguing storyline that fans are trying to wrap their heads around, making different theories about what is really going on.

The general consensus is that the former world champion has multiple personalities and is being manipulated by all of them, resembling the ‘Wyatt 6’. It has been his Twitter username for some time, with people always attempting to figure out the true meaning.
