Three-time Olympians Greta Small and Sami Kennedy-Sim flew the flag for Australia in Day 13 of the Winter Olympics.

Two Aussies headlined Day 13 of Beijing 2022, with Sami Kennedy-Sim making a semi-final charge and Greta Small featuring in a final.

At Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre, Aussie Greta Small put it all together to make a run into the final of the Alpine Combined Slalom.

She was coming into her third Olympic campaign, and was out for redemption after falling short four years previously. She’s also had mixed results in her individual events in the super-g and downhill events at Beijing.

Small started superbly, putting a time of 1:34.38 in the downhill section, which have her ranked in the top four of the training session a day earlier. With everyone around her also stepping up their game, she finished in the top 12 for that section.

In the slalom section, eight women recorded a DNF on the challenging course, with an additional disqualification.

Small trailed the leading Swiss pair by about eight seconds in this section, but it was a run good enough to see her finish 13th overall with a cumulative time of 2:34.55 for the three-time Olympian.

Also at her third Olympics, Sami Kennedy-Sim left it all out there in pursuit of bettering her personal achievement of making the small final in 2018 at PyeongChang.

She breezed through the seeding stage, 1/8, and quarterfinals with consummate ease. The veteran was looking very comfortable with the Secret Garden course, which is where she had made her return to international competition last year.

She was drawn a difficult semifinal matchup including German Daniela Maier, and unfortunately wasn’t able to qualify through to the final.

In the small final, she finished last behind some very impressive skiiers, which gave her an overall finish of eighth. It matches her finish in this event from four years ago.
