Round 5 begins tonight with the Saints and Tigers facing off, and so does the rolling SuperCoach lockout.
Looking ahead to the round, here are some of the best captaincy options this week.
Brodie Grundy ($648,300)
Grundy is a safe vice-captaincy option in Collingwood’s matchup against the Eagles on Friday, against whom he’s recorded scores of 132 and 137 among his last three outings. With the Pies’ midfield under injury strife, expect Grundy to gather plenty of his own ball too, which can only mean more points.
Jack Macrae ($644,800)
169, 139, 189. That’s Macrae’s last three scores against Gold Coast. If you’re looking for a set-and-forget, stress-free captaincy option in round 5, look no further. Macrae averages a whopping 135.8 against the Suns, with a low of just 93, from nine outings against them. Enough said.
Jordan Ridley ($614,400)
Ridley’s the highest-scoring SuperCoach player in season 2021 so far, and recorded a season-low 124 against the Swans last week. Ridley looms as a sensible pick against the Lions this weekend, with an average of 29 disposals, 603 metres gained and 7.8 marks so far in 2021.
Max Gawn ($733,600)
Gawn’s average against the Hawks is an enormous 137.5, with a low score of 112 in his six matches against them. Gawn scored a whopping 185 against the Hawks in 2020 from just 7 hitouts, dominating with 22 disposals as well. Gawn is another stress-free captain pick for round 5.
Patrick Dangerfield ($611,900)
If you held Dangerfield through his suspension, he’s returning ahead of a tantalising matchup against North Melbourne. Dangerfield’s highest ever SuperCoach score – an insane 229 – came against the Kangaroos in his first season at the Cats, and he averages 109.3 from 15 matches against the currently 18th-placed Roos.
To take your Vice Captain’s score in a round, simply put a non-playing player on your field and place the captaincy on him – your VC score will be doubled and emergency brought on for the non-playing player. Just make sure your captain isn’t the medical sub!
