With Layla Guscoth’s announcement that she would be returning to the UK to work as a doctor during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Adelaide Thunderbirds were left with big shoes to fill in their defensive line-up.
On Tuesday morning, the Thunderbirds announced the signing of Jamaican Sunshine Girl Latanya Wilson for the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball Season.
So just who is the girl behind the bib?
The 188cm circle defender who turned 20 only a few days ago already has a handful of caps for her country.
Wilson started the 2020 season with Vitality Netball Super League’s Celtic Dragons before COVID-19 brought the season to an abrupt halt.
The Sunshine Girl will already have a stellar combination with fellow Jamaican and Thunderbirds’ fan favourite Shamera Sterling.
Wilson is known for her athleticism, energy and ability to sneak a mean intercept.
Dramatically, she was sent off for dangerous play during one of Celtic’s few VNSL matches earlier this year.
Given time and experience we have no doubt Wilson will be able to hone in
on her defensive prowess while staying out of the eye of the SSN umpires.
Wilson completes the controversial Thunderbirds’ 2021 squad of ten, with notable omissions ex-co-captain Chelsea Pitman and impact player Kate Shimmin who did not receive contracts.
