Ahead of its third finals series in a row, Central Coast Mariners captain Danny Vukovic spoke about the secret to the club’s success.

The Mariners finished second on the table, and went unbeaten in their last five games, winning four.

And now, they get to sit back and watch to find out who they will play in the semi-finals on the 14th of May.

Vukovic was full of pride in discussing his side’s achievement at the A-League finals press conference on Tuesday.

“This season has been fantastic,” he said.

“To finish second, we couldn’t have imagined a finish like that, we wanted finals football, [and] yeah we’re really happy with how we finished the season, we’ve won four games from five, and we enter the finals series with some good form.”

With such a solid campaign under its belt already, what is the secret to Central Coast’s success?

The answer, according to Vukovic, was simple.

“The secret to the Mariners’ success, I think, is our team camaraderie,” he said.

“I think that takes us a long way, and it’s plain to see how much we fight for one another out there.

“So many times, this season we’ve fallen behind, and we don’t give up, and we find ways to claw ourselves back into games. I think that’s a big reason why we finished second.”

Coming up in a fortnight will be the first leg of the Mariners semifinal, against one of Western Sydney, Sydney FC, Adelaide United or Wellington Phoenix, and Vukovic and the Mariners will be watching intently to find out who they will play,

“The semi-final coming up is going to be huge, we still don’t know who we’re going to play, so we’ll watch the games this weekend, and look forward to that-look forward to seeing who we get,” he said.

“Preparations have already started, we’re working hard, in preparation for that game, it will be an away game first, and then the second leg will be at home. So, really exciting times on the coast.”
