Ahead of the upcoming Suncorp Super Netball season, the Sunshine Coast Lightning have rewarded Maddie Hinchliffe with a spot in the main squad.

The Sunshine Coast Lightning have announced that Maddie Hinchliffe has been elevated to the senior list as an injury replacement player for Ashlee Unie, who will miss the year with an ACL sustained in the pre-season.

Hinchliffe made her Suncorp Super Netball debut last season playing for the Queensland Firebirds, and now gets an opportunity for the Lightning.

Hinchliffe had previously been a training partner at the Firebirds, and moved to the Lightning during the off-season.

As a Wing Defence and a Centre, Hinchliffe will add versatility to the Lightning lineup.

Hinchliffe was over the moon with the news.

“I’m honored to be given this opportunity,” she said.

“For Kylee and the coaches to put their faith in me is so exciting. I can’t wait to get on court and contribute to the team.”

The rise of Hinchliffe in the off-season since her arrival to the Lightning was noted by coach Kylee Byrne, and now has been rewarded.

“Maddie has worked immensely hard since joining our club and it is pleasing to now grant her this opportunity to play at the higher level and elevate her game even further,” she said.

“While we’re disappointed to lose Ash [Unie] for the season, Maddie is highly deserving and will be a strong asset to our team.

“I see so much potential with her ability to read the play and her strong workrate and can’t wait to see what she can deliver both on court and as part of our wider squad.”
