Australia has been crushed 0-2 by a stubborn Egypt line-up in its third group game of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Australia has blown its chance to qualify out of its group after falling to Egypt 0-2 on Tuesday night.

The Egyptian team was full of energy from the start and had many chances early while the Aussies struggled to string passes together.

The Olyroos had their best chance in the first half after a cross from Dylan Pierias narrowly missed Nicholas D’Agostino.

Then the heartbreak hit for the Olyroos, as Ramadan Sobhi crossed across the box to Ahmed Rayan, who was in the right spot to tap it in right on the 44th minute.

Looking for an injection, Keanu Baccus and Daniel Arzani came on for Pierias and Denis Genreau at the half.

The Aussies struggled to find any attacking creativity, as the Egyptians peppered their goal.

Tom Glover was forced into a miraculous save in the 62nd which deflected into the hand of Sobhi and received a free kick.

Ammar Hamdi then smashed the crossbar with a stellar shot which had Glover well beaten.

The Olyroos continued to try and find an answer, but were trying long-distance and half-chances rather than building up the play.

Arzani had a shot saved in the 80th as the Egyptian keeper Mohamed El-Shenawy was playing an inspired game.

Australian hearts would sink in the 85th minute as Hamdi would bamboozle their defenders and score Egypt’s second and sink Graham Arnold’s side.

The Olyroos continued to pepper the goals in the seven minutes of added time, but failed to convert.
