Matt Stone Racing has announced that Todd Hazelwood has signed a multi-year deal and will return to the team in 2022.

Matt Stone Racing has announced that Todd Hazelwood has signed a multi-year deal and will return to the team in 2022.

Hazelwood left the team after the 2018 season and has spent the last two years at Brad Jones Racing. Hazelwood finished 17th in 2020 while securing his maiden pole position and his first podium at the Sydney Super sprint.

Throughout the 2021 season, Hazelwood has been voted Supercars ‘ultimate performer’ on two occasions.

Hazelwood previously drove for Matt Stone Racing between 2014-2019 in both Super 2 and the main Supercars championship. He even won the 2017 Super2 championship with MSR before making the step up.

Hazelwood spoke about his recent success and aspiration with MSR in 2022.

“All of my best results so far in Supercars have been at NTI and Truck Assist events so I’m really hoping their MSR relationship continues next year as they seem to bring me a lot of good luck. I’d certainly like to get those results at every round.” He said.

“I’m super excited to be returning with the team at Matt Stone Racing for the next few seasons in the Supercars Championship.”

“MSR and I have already achieved so much together, and I cannot wait to reignite our partnership to achieve at the highest level.”

Team owner Matt Stone hopes that Hazelwood’s return with ignite a spark within the team and deliver more consistent results.

“It’s great to have Todd reuniting with the team and moving towards the next stage of his career and our involvement in Supercars.” Said Stone.

“We’ve had some very good results with Todd in the past in both Super2 and as a rookie in our first couple of years in the main game when we were a one-car team.”

“Both Todd and our team have grown a lot in the past two years, so we are expecting some strong results from both of our drivers and from our team as a whole next year.”

This announcement follows the news that both Jake Kostecki and Zane Goddard will be parting ways with MSR after the 2021 season. The team is yet to announce who will race alongside Hazelwood but Matt Stone is confident a new look side will allow for continued positive growth.

“It’s been great to lock away a multi-year deal with Todd. Our drivers are obviously an important piece of the puzzle that we need in place to produce the results that we want to deliver. Stone said.

I have every confidence that our lineup next year will once again see MSR take a step forward towards our goal of being race winners at the highest level in Australian motorsport.”

Matt Stone Racing will return with the rest of the Supercars field for the final five rounds of the season on October 29th at Sydney Motorsport Park.
