Tai Tuivasa needed less than a minute to earn his fourth UFC first round KO/TKO victory over American Harry Hunsucker.

Australian heavyweight Tai Tuivasa needed just 49 seconds to defeat late replacement opponent, America’s Harry Hunsucker, at UFC Vegas 22.

Originally scheduled to face Don’Tale Mayes, the popular Tuivasa did not let the midweek change of opponent derail his quest for a second consecutive first round victory.

After being caught early with a stinging right hand from Hunsucker, Tuivasa replied in devastating fashion. The Australian showed beautiful craft, using leg kicks to disguise a pair of right hands that got around the American’s defence and put him on the canvas.

A patient Tuivasa then followed up with accurate ground and pound, finding every opening in the defence of Hunsucker. This left referee Herb Dean no choice but to wave the fight off and declare Tuivasa the victor.

The victory is seen as a reward for hard work in the eyes of Tuivasa, who spoke after the fight about his career progression and his future plans.

“I’ve been working with Gokhan Saki, he’s one of the best stand up fighters of all time. I really feel like I’ve improved my stand up as well. I was just ready for anything”, he told Paul Felder in the post-fight interview.

“Mad love to Hunsucker too for stepping in, I appreciate that man. Four days notice, what a soldier.

“I miss my son, but if there’s a fight in a few weeks I need to know in the next few days or I’ll be going missing.

“I’m back on the board now, so anyone in the top 15 or really anyone that just wants to bang on really, let;s get it on. I’m here to entertain the fans.”

The win marks Tuivasa’s fourth first round KO/TKO finish in the UFC and given his fan-friendly style, there should be a plethora of match ups in the near future for the proud 28 year old from Western Sydney.
