Adam Taggart and Ajdin Hrustic have both been named by Graham Arnold to the Socceroos squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lebanon in Sydney and Canberra.

The Canberra match is designated as the home fixture for Lebanon, after the AFC requested the match be played in a neutral territory.

Patrick Yazbek, who was originally named to the Olyroos squad for the West Asian Football Federation U-23 tournament to take place during the upcoming window, has been called up to the Socceroos.

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold said that the side took a lot away from the Asian Cup in Qatar and that the experience will help them work towards qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

“We selected a number of younger, inexperienced players for the Asian Cup with the view of giving them more opportunities at international level as well as exposing them to tournament conditions,” Arnold said.

“It’s part of our continued regeneration of the senior national team squad, ensuring that in two years’ time we have the depth and experience required to succeed on international football’s biggest stage.”

A number of injuries forced Arnold into some squad changes.

Some of those absences from the squad because of injury are Aziz Behich (calf), Martin Boyle (concussion), Aiden O’Neill (suspension/ankle), and Marco Tilio (hamstring).

“We’ve gone with a similar squad to the one we took to the Asian Cup, and they’ll be prepared to face a side in Lebanon that have a lot to play for,” Arnold said.

“It’ll be a great test for the group and one I know they’re very much looking forward to.”
