With the bye rounds nearly upon us, gaining those valuable captain’s points is as critical as ever. The SuperCoach Sanctum PODcast team has checked out the form and history to provide you with the best choices for this round’s action.

Jarrod Witts – $616,800

Aside from Tim English (who has missed five weeks), Witts has the highest average of any ruckman. It is truly a remarkable effort, considering he is returning from a significant knee injury.

Up against the Hawks this week, who have named forward Jacob Koschitzke in the ruck and clearly lack a big man of any note, Witts should absolutely dominate the hit-outs.

Given the game is in Darwin, where it is notorious for it being dewy and slippery, we can expect plenty of throw-ins and stoppages to add to his chances for a huge tally of hit-outs.

Pick your VC early on in the round, and if it fails, you can back Witts with confidence.

Captain Confidence Rating: 9/10

Clayton Oliver – $659,500

Predicted last week by the Sanctum PODcast team, we see no reason not to back him again this week to score big. Playing 4.35pm Saturday means the opportunity may be there to VC him, and why wouldn’t you, given his form (last week’s score was 178!).

Given their opponent this week, Fremantle, is struggling for form, they will be fired up for the contest, meaning plenty of contested ball to be won – an Oliver speciality.

Now boasting the second-highest average in SuperCoach, expect Oliver to score well again this week.

Captain Confidence Rating: 8/10

Rory Laird – $632,600

Laird had a quiet week by his standards last week, scoring just 105, so expect him to bounce back this week. His opponents this week in Geelong have struggled of late in centre clearances and around stoppages, so expect Laird to collect plenty of contested possessions and rack up the points.

With ownership up to 7.8%, plenty are starting to realise his scoring potential, so if you don’t have him, and are looking to balance your side before the byes, bring him in, place the VC on him (he plays Saturday 1.45pm) and reap the rewards.

Captain Confidence Rating: 7/10

Unique Captain’s Choice – Stephen Coniglio – $426,500

This would be a bold choice, but Coniglio was redeployed to where he is best suited last week by new interim coach Mark McVeigh. The result was the third-highest score of the round (140).

Given the huge victory the Giants had, expect Coniglio to again spend a lot of time in the midfield, and in what should be a fiercely contested game against the Lions early on, he again has the potential to score big.

His previous two outings also point to a big score, with 141 and 158 scores you would certainly love doubled. 59.6% of us have him. Do you dare take the risk?

Captain Confidence Rating: 6/10

Last Week: Neale 100, J.Kelly 125, Parish 128, Oliver 178, Miller 59, Macrae 104, Mills 102, Cripps 78
