The Team

Paige Hadley – Co-Captain (WA/C/WD), Maddy Proud – Co-Captain (WA/C), Tayla Fraser (C/WA), Sophie Garbin (GA/GS, Nat Haythornthwaite (WA/GA), Helen Housby (GA/GS), Sarah Klau (GD/GK), Lauren Moore (GK/GD/WD), Maddy Turner (GD/WD), Sam Wallace (GS)

What to Expect

The premiers of 2019 are raring to go after the disappointment of their 2020 campaign, returning with one of the most consistent and stable squads of the tournament. They have an exceptional list of players and the depth on the bench is one of the main positives from this squad.

Lining up in the shooting circle, the formidable partnership of Helen Housby and Sam Wallace are back to cause more headaches for defensives units. Australian Diamond debutant Sophie Garbin makes up the shooters to an exciting trio.

In the midcourt, Paige Hadley and Maddy Proud co-captian the side, backed up by Nat Haythornthwaite and new addition to the playing squad, Tayla Fraser.

The diversity, agility and speed of the mid-court is going to be a thrilling watch, however the only position that perhaps the consistency is questionable is the WD bib. It looks like we will see a lot more of Paige Hadley there, as well as Lauren Moore who was an excellent impact player in the position.

Defensively though, the Swifts will have a heaping of confidence, with Sarah Klau and Maddy Turner returning in what is one of the best defensive partnerships in the league.

It is without doubt that the Swifts will be hurting after 2020, after losing to West Coast Fever in the minor semi-final, putting a stop to their dreams of back-to-back titles. Coach Briony Akle has spoken about the hard yards the side has been putting in to ensure that they know how to win when it matters.

With the connections they have been building over the years and their incredible talent and experience, there is no reason this team cannot make it two titles in three years. It is not going to be easy, but if the Swifts can earn the double chance at the big dance, the title will be theirs.

Key to the Season

For the Swifts, look no further than the midcourt duo of Maddy Proud and Paige Hadley.

Their roles in the team as co-captains, both on and off the court are going to be crucial to the Swift’s success. Their positions are going to be challenged, in particular with Hadley looking to have to start at WD more, and Proud mixing between C and WA, with Haythornthwaite on hand also.

One thing is for certain, they will give their all to ensure that their team is on that podium come to the final game. Both players have all the experience, talent and versatility to lead this side to victory, and it is going to be one heck of a season for them both.
