After four seasons and two championships with the New South Wales Swifts, Garbin made the decision to join the Magpies, signing until the end of 2023.

Garbin wasn’t the only signature that Collingwood has secured, with training partner Maggie Lind elevated into the main squad.

Hailing from Western Australia, Garbin has played 49 games for the Swifts, a key member in the two championship wins (2019 and 2021).

During the 2021 season she scored a total of 152 goals at 88 percent efficiency across her 15 games.

Garbin started 2021 off strong, making her debut for the Diamonds during the Constellation Cup early in March after being promoted from the 2019 development squad.

Lind, meanwhile, impressed during her time as a training partner at Collingwood and has now been rewarded with a senior contract.

She was a part of the Magpies 2019 Super Club championship side which was played over in New Zealand, before being signed as a training partner in 2021.

After spending the past 10 years playing in the VNL for the City West Falcons, she has established herself as a dominant wing attack, especially on the circle edge.

Collingwood head coach Nicole Richardson said the team is delighted to have Garbin and Lind on board.

“We’re so excited both for Sophie and Maggie,” Richardson said.

“It’s been fantastic to see Soph’s confidence grow over the last few seasons and we think she’ll be a really strong asset for us under the ring. With the success she’s had with the Swifts and the Diamonds, we can’t wait to see her rise to this new opportunity.

“Maggie’s call up is a huge credit to her constant effort and commitment. We’re looking forward to seeing where she can take her game at the next level.”

Further signings are set to be announced over the coming days.
