The biggest free agent in baseball, two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, is reportedly set to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays after six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
The two-time and reigning MLB Most Valuable Player, who has drawn comparisons to Babe Ruth and Bullet Rogan, Ohtani, is set to drop a bombshell across the league as he chooses his new destination.
After being hunted by all MLB teams but primarily the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, and Chicago Cubs, he is set to make his decision exceptionally soon.
Considered the most lucrative free-agent pursuit in baseball history, the Japanese star is set to make a formal announcement on his future as early as today and is set to shatter the current contract record – Mike Trout’s 12-year $426.5 million deal for the Los Angeles Angels.
A report from JP Hoornstra of Dodgers Nation on Saturday morning has revealed that Ohtani is set to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays. This comes after MLB Network insider Jon Morosi indicated that a close source divulged that Ohtani was travelling to Toronto.
Coming off his best season to date, Ohtani had .304/.412/.654 with 44 home runs, 95 runs batted in, 26 doubles, eight triples, 20 stolen bases and an OPS of 1.066. He was also equally effective on the mound as a pitcher, posting the statistics of ERA of 3.14 and striking out 167 batters in 132 innings of work.
