The Perth Scorchers have finalised their 18-man squad ahead of BBL13, adding left-arm pace bowler Liam Haskett.

Haskett has been an integral piece to Western Australia’s brilliant start in their Sheffield Shield title defence, taking 13 wickets in four matches. Three of those came in South Australia’s second innings in a comprehensive 200-run win in late October.

Standing at 200 cm, his ability to generate steep bounce, at the same time being economical with his line and length has made him hard to play against.

Ahead of his first BBL match on Sunday against the Melbourne Renegades, Haskett is excited to learn from the team’s seasoned campaigners.

“Joining the Scorchers is an amazing opportunity, and one I’m keen to take with both hands,” he said.

“We’ve got so much experience in our squad — in the BBL, and at international level. To have the chance to learn from them is unreal.

“I’m also excited to pick the brains of the fast bowlers in our attack, especially given how much I’ve already learned as part of the WA squad this year.

“There’s no better side to be part of as a young quick, so I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Perth Scorchers BBL coach, Adam Voges, is also excited about the different dimension the Claremont-Nedlands product can bring to a Scorchers bowling attack, with no shortage of pace.

“Liam has a lot of exciting raw attributes so we’re keen to get him around the group,” he said.

“We’ve seen with WA’s Sheffield Shield side that he’s up to bowling against the best batters in the country, and we certainly think he has the tools to be a damaging limited overs bowler, as well.

“Although his pace and bounce are especially well suited to Optus Stadium, we believe Liam is a bowler who can have an impact wherever he plays.”

The Scorchers’ pursuit for a sixth BBL title, begins on Sunday evening against the Melbourne Renegades at GHMBA Stadium in Geelong.
