The Queensland Firebirds will be a force to be reckoned with in 2021. After some great new additions, anything is possible for the Firebirds.

What to Expect

Fans can expect a selfless brand of netball from the Firebirds in 2021. The Firebirds have a lot of strong talent in their squad which allows for an incredible amount of depth.

The advantage of this is for new coach Megan Anderson being able to have the flexibility to put anyone on the court without the quality of netball dropping.

2021 also marks the return of Firebirds legend Kim Ravaillion after spending four years away. Now that she is back you can expect to see speed and strength through the Birdies’ mid court.

Adding either Jemma Mi Mi or Lara Dunkley into the wing attack position, fans will see a fast paced brand of netball that may well trouble a host of sides.

This season there will be a lot of flexibility in the goal circle. With Gretel Bueta returning to the line up there is the opportunity for Anderson to experiment with combinations.

Romelda Aiken and Tippah Dwan were a fantastic combination in 2020 and Bueta and Aiken is a proven recipe for success, so with that flexibility, it will keep the opposition defenders on their toes.

On the back end of the court, the partnership of Kim Jenner and Tara Hinchliffe reached new heights in 2020, becoming one of the best defensive partnerships in the league.

Adding Rudi Ellis to the mix who is still growing her game will make for a very interesting defensive partnerships.

Key to the Season

For the Firebirds, they need to start the season strong. In the past it has taken a while for the side to hit their straps with last season being a prime example.

It didn’t take until Round Six for the Firebirds to get on the board. Once the Firebirds got going, they could beat anyone and became a real threat to the competition.

With the competition being as strong as it is the Firebirds need to be fit and firing from the first centre pass in round one. If not, they may be left behind.

Last Season: 5th
