With nearly every trophy in the cabinet at Netball Australia, the Origin Diamonds selectors are taking no chances, naming a full-strength squad for the upcoming Netball Nations Cup.

The Origin Australian Diamonds selectors (head coach Stacey Marinkovich and national selectors Anne Sargeant OAM and Michelle Wilkins) have named a 13-player squad that is to take on England, New Zealand and Uganda next month.

The tournament will take place in London and Leeds between the weekends of the 20th to the 21st of January and the 27th to the 28th of January.

The Diamonds have never faced Uganda in the international sphere, ranked seventh in the world, the ‘She-Cranes’ finished fifth in the latest Netball World Cup.

Returning to the line-up for the Diamonds, are rising shooters Sophie Dwyer and Donnell Wallam with Amy Parmenter and Matilda Garrett, two notable absences in defence.

Steph Fretwell (nee Wood) and Ash Brazill have since retired from international netball.

Head coach Stacey Marinkovich is eager for the tournament and the challenge it presents for the group.

“The Netball Nations Cup is a great opportunity for fans to see the Origin Australian Diamonds against various international teams and styles of netball,” Marinkovich said.

“It’s a great challenge to be able to not only test ourselves against these styles of play but to do so in front of a loud England crowd.

“We will continue to explore the depth and capability of our squad as we look to drive performance with a vision to the future.”
