Former Port Adelaide cult hero Jay Schulz has praised his former teammate Travis Boak ahead of his 350th game this Sunday against Richmond.

Schulz, who left the Power at the end of the 2016 season, played alongside Boak for almost a decade and had nothing but good words to say about the former captain on Pears on a Pod.

“The thing I’d admire the most is that he was able to put his own game aside and very rarely talk about himself,” he said.

“No matter what was asked of him and if he liked it or not.

“Everyone does talk about his training, and everyone’s completely right and that’s why he’s played 350 games.

“He’s extraordinary at what he does, he’s one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met, extremely caring, got around everyone from top to bottom.

“Whether or not he thought he was ready for the captaincy cause he was young, he took it in his stride and did well.

“I wish he could play on again next year.”

Schulz is remembered for his pinpoint accurate goalkicking, and said Boak had reached out in an effort to fix his own yips.

“Everyone talks about how professional he is, how he trains and how he treats his body. He does absolutely everything that he can,” he said.

“I reckon two years ago, I was living in Tassie, and he was having the yips in front of goal and he rang me to ask for some advice.

“He said I feel I’m pretty sound in everything else, but I’m a bit off with that, and thought he’d give me a call.”
