After three seasons with the Thunderbirds, Nankivell is ready to take her game to another level. The 21-year-old had 255 assists, 23 deflections and eight intercepts over the 2021 season, playing across all three midcourt positions for the Thunderbirds.
Nankivell’s season highlight was Round 9, being named in the Team of the Week for her performance against the Collingwood Magpies, when she had 31 assists, 13 centre pass receives and two intercepts in the Thunderbirds’ win.
After playing in the AFLW in 2019, and then being a training partner, Nankivell’s rise has been rapid, backed up ber her work ethic and on-court performance.

Pitre Bourdon, Thunderbirds High Performance Manager, lauded Nankivell’s versatility and development.
“Maisie’s preparation and professional approach has allowed her to develop her game further this season,” Bourdon said.
“She shined in her leadership role this season and is a well-respected member of this side.
“Her ability to play across all three midcourt positions gives us great flexibility and we’re very pleased to have her back in 2022.”
Nankivell’s growth was recognised this year, with her elevation to the Australian Diamonds Development Squad, as her attacking game has brought plenty of excitement to the Thunderbirds in 2021.
The Thunderbirds have now named Georgie Horjus, Matilda Garrett and Maisie Nankivell for 2022, with eight players still to be named in the squad.
