Australian cricket sensation Mitchell Starc is gearing up for a homecoming this summer, as he joins the Sydney Sixers’ marquee supplementary player list ahead of KFC BBL|13.
However, Starc’s role within the team will see a significant shift compared to his earlier seasons with the club.
In the upcoming season, Starc is unlikely to grace the field due to his international commitments with Australia. Despite this, the acclaimed fast bowler has eagerly embraced a new position as the club’s Membership Ambassador, aiming to contribute to the team’s success in a different capacity.
Additionally, he plans to provide mentorship to the squad’s fast bowlers.
The recently introduced league rules allow Cricket Australia-contracted players, expected to be unavailable for the Big Bash season, to be signed to the club’s marquee supplementary list during the contracting period.
A foundational member of the club, Starc boasts a remarkable record, having clinched the BBL trophy in its inaugural season (BBL|01) and the 2012 edition of the Champions League Twenty20.
Starc’s return also marks a reunion with old comrades and former teammates Moises Henriques, Steve Smith, and Steve O’Keefe.

Starc’s decision to rejoin the Sixers follows a spectacular season in Australian colours, featuring the retention of the Ashes, triumph in the World Test Championship, and securing an ODI World Cup trophy.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Starc stated, “I’d love to be able to play for the club this summer, but my international schedule doesn’t really allow for it,” he said.
“[But] I’m a Sixer at heart, and when I was offered the opportunity to come back into the squad via the marquee supplementary player list, I jumped at the chance.
“I’ll be doing everything I can to help the club, whether that’s talking to some of the bowlers or helping promote memberships and our matches at the SCG.”
