Sunshine Coast Lightning’s Mahalia Cassidy debuted for her new club at John Cain Arena last Saturday, and will be looking to go two from two when they return to play the Melbourne Vixens this weekend.

Cassidy had a solid debut for the Lightning in their win over the Collingwood Magpies, notching up 17 goal assists and 27 feeds.

She is now looking forward to returning to Melbourne to continue the perfect start to the season.

“It was lovely to get the first win of the season last week,” she said.

“We’re feeling really good going into this week, it’s going to be another hard game, but we think we can build on what we did last week and just get better each round.”

The reigning premiers in the Melbourne Vixens will be an early acid test for the Lightning if they are to continue their finals streak in Suncorp Super Netball.

Cassidy and the Lightning are only looking ahead to the current opponent.

“We’re just taking [it] one game at a time,” she said.

“We know every team in the competition is going to be hard, we can’t take anyone lightly or more serious.

“They [The Vixens] had a loss last week so they’re going to be even more hungry. We’re really just focusing on them this week and hopefully coming away with the win.”

The new look lineup at the Vixens has Cassidy cautious for the matchup as well.

“I think they’re a very unassuming side, almost a bit unpredictable,” she said.

“They have quite a few young ones coming into the mix as well, which is really exciting. You never know what they are going to put out on court.

“We’re facing them like they are the premiers, which they are, and we’re just going to go really hard.”

The Lightning will take to the court against the Vixens on Sunday at 1pm.
