Change was a theme that ran throughout Collingwood’s preseason, but captain Scott Pendlebury is confident his men will remain unfazed and deliver on field.

Change was overarching in Collingwood’s dramatic off-season from a change in playing list, to a new president, and vows to change and Do Better.

But skipper Scott Pendlebury declares their successful role-based football will remain unchanged.

While Pendlebury admits his side ‘feels a bit younger than we have in previous years’ after several retirements and trades.

He has seen positive signs from his teammates in their preseason hit-outs against the Cats and Richmond

“We’ve seen some things that have really worked,” he told The Inner Sanctum.

“Now it’s just finding what our best football looks like and hopefully, we can replicate that enough in the season to do some damage.”

To find what makes them their best, Pendlebury revealed that they will be taking a role-focused approach, an approach that lead to their previous success and is hoping will take them back there this year.

“We expect them [young players] to come in and play a role, and that’s probably something we can still take from 2018,” he said.

“We had a side that was so focused on the role and executing that thing for the teammate next to you.

“We were on the cusp of creating something really special there and we’ll be looking to get back to that.”

They will do this without Adam Treloar, Tom Phillips, and Jaidyn Stephenson, who not only took the field in 2018 Grand Final but were victims of Collingwood’s salary cap struggles over the trade period.

Treloar’s trade to the Bulldogs was arguably the most high-profile and controversial of the trio, but Pendlebury won’t let the noise of the trade distract them from preparation.

“It’s the nature of the beast we’ve created in free agency,” Pendlebury said.

“It wasn’t the greatest circumstances in which they left, but we realize ‘Ads’ [Adam Treloar] is not gonna take it easy on us on Friday night because he likes us.

“We know it’s gonna be a fierce rivalry and we’re ready for that.”
