With the next instalment of the Suncorp Super Netball season on the horizon, Sunshine Coast Lightning’s Laura Scherian is ready to get back on the court and play.

With a new training regime and the addition of legendary coach Vicki Wilson OAM as an assistant coach, Scherian says this has been her favourite pre-season ever.

“It’s been awesome to have Vicki come on board.” she said.

“She’s got some great ideas on court and brings some different drills.

“We’re really enjoying her contribution.

“For myself, [training] has been working on speed and agility.

“Having that base, Mark, our strength and conditioning coach can then fine-tune the little things that we want to work on.

“All our programs have been really individualized so we’ve been really enjoying the pre-season.”

A trial game this week against local rivals Queensland Firebirds is the Lightning’s first opportunity to show off what they have been working on.

“We can’t wait to get out there and have a game against them,” she said.

“Obviously they’re missing some players with Diamonds and other things, and so are we.

“It’ll be awesome to give our training partners an opportunity to join in as well.”
