In the first of four fights to feature City Kickboxing fighters, Carlos Ulberg (6-1) kicked the night off in style for the New Zealand based camp with a first-round KO of Nicolae Negumereanu (13-2).

The win for Ulberg marks his third in a row, pushing him to 4-1 in the promotion.

Throughout the fight, the Kiwi used his superior speed and slick movement to outclass his Romanian foe.

Negumereanu started the fight with a front-foot-heavy approach, but Ulberg was able to control the range by using feints to keep his opponent at bay along with some hard calf kicks.

When the Romanian started getting closer, Ulberg often found a home for his lead left whether that be a jab or a hook before continuing to use the calf kicks to compromise his movement.

Midway into the first round, it was clear to see that there was a massive gap in skill when it came to the stand-up, with Negumereanu being unable to get anything off on the former kickboxer.

When the fight was at a far range, Ulberg was able to use his movement to avoid getting backed against the cage whilst also being able to catch him with the jab when they were up close.

The Romanian continued to chase his opponent before getting caught with a huge lead hook that sent him crashing to the canvas, forcing the referee to stop the contest after 3:44 of the first round.

With his third win since his Contender series fight, Carlos Ulberg looks to be a handful for anyone in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight division.

Given that he is still only 31 years old, the Kiwi looks to be someone for Aussie and Kiwi fight fans to keep an eye on.
