UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones has been officially ruled out of UFC 295 due to injury after tearing his pectoral tendon off the bone in training on Tuesday.

The confirmation by UFC CEO Dana White on social media comes as he was set to face off against Stipe Miocic in the main-event fight on the UFC 295 card on November 12 in New York. As Jones has torn his pectoral tendon off the bone, he will now need to undergo surgery with an estimated return timeline of eight months.

The loss of Jones to injury means that Miocic will no longer compete on the card, and the headline fight will now be between former light heavyweight champion JiYí Procházka and former middleweight champion Alex Pereira for the vacant light heavyweight title. Tom Aspinall vs Sergei Pavlovich has also been added to the card, with the two batting it out for the interim heavyweight title in the co-main event.

Miocic’s decision to step away from the card is currently unknown at this time. It’s unknown if he was offered the opportunity to fight at the event or opted out from competing until Jones has recovered from injury to take him on.

It is understood by ESPN that sources revealed there is still hope to book Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic in the future for a big card. They could very well feature at UFC 300, with the event just around the corner.

“Here we are again,” Dana White said via social media.

“Jon Jones was training last, night got injured. He was wrestling and tore the tendon that connects your pec to the bone, off the bone.

“Eight months, going to need surgery. He’s out.”

Unfortunately, the injury to Jones couldn’t have come at a worse time for the UFC as it follows Charles Oliveria and Paulo Costa ruled out of UFC 294. This prompted Australian Alex Volkanovski and former Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman to take their place with less than a fortnight of notice.

It would ultimately end badly for the two replacements, with the former suffering a knockout at the hands of Islam Makhachev, while the latter would lose to Khamzat Chimaev via decision.
