The Australian coach has signed a deal to become Juventus Women's head coach after several successful years with Arsenal Ladies.

Australian women’s coach Joe Montemurro has swapped Arsenal Ladies for Juventus Women. The former Arsenal Ladies boss has signed a deal with Italian powerhouse Juventus Women the club confirmed. Montemurro will take charge of Juventus Women from July 1 after being in charge of the Arsenal Ladies since 2017.

Montemurro was the head coach for the Melbourne Victory FC W-League team back in 2014. He managed to guide them to a runner-up position which was the clubs highest finish ever. However, Montemurro’s side lost in the semi-final to Canberra United in a penalty shoot-out.

Montemurro only lasted one season with the Victory before moving to cross-town rivals Melbourne City to coach their youth team. When City was included in the W-League, Joe was then named head coach.

In the clubs first season in the W-League, City were crowned Premiers. The club then completed the domestic double after they defeated Sydney.

Under Montemurro’s tutelage, City went the entire campaign undefeated and only conceded five goals. In 2016, Montemurro was elevated to become John van’t Schip’s assistant for the men’s side.

Joe moves to Arsenal

Then came his big coaching break.

In 2017, Montemurro was named as Arsenal Ladies manager. Just a year later, he led them to his first trophy with Arsenal winning the FA Women’s League Cup after defeating Manchester City.

In that same year, he led Arsenal to the FA Cup Final, however, they lost to Chelsea 3-1.

Montemurro’s attacking style of football won the admiration of many and in 2019 his biggest achievement happened. Arsenal won the WSL title, the clubs first since 2012 and because of his exploits, he won WSL League Managers Association Coach of the Year.

Having led Arsenal Ladies to consecutive Champions League qualifications, in March of this year, Montemurro decided to leave the north London club citing to spend more time with his family.

Now it appears, that Montemurro is back, refreshed and ready to take on another challenge.

Montemurro and his exploits with Arsenal Ladies are believed to be the main reason that Juventus Women have decided he is the man for the job.


Hopefully, Montemurro’s success in north London will transfer over to the Italian giants.
