Fox has finally secured her first Olympic Gold Medal, fulfilling her dream of becoming an Olympic champion after falling short at both London 2012 and Rio 2016.

The 27-year-old paddled over the line ahead of Britain’s Mallory Franklin and Germany’s Andrea Herzog, embracing her coach, mother and Olympic champion, Myriam Fox, from her canoe in tears.

Father and fellow Olympic medallist Richard Fox kept his composure saying this was a race his daughter had to win for so many reasons.

“What happened in K1 final shattered her,” he said.

Fox qualified fastest for the C1 final with a time of 110.59 and chased down Franklin in the final for Olympic gold.
