Star Fremantle midfielder Andrew Brayshaw has been left dazzled by teammate Luke Jackson’s strong showing in the club’s intraclub matches this week, admitting he “can’t wait” to see what 2024 has in store for the ruck-forward.

The 22-year-old has turned heads with his form in contests around the ground and inside 50, following up aerial efforts with intensity when the ball hit the deck.

These traits were on full display in Friday’s game in particular. Jackson showed a great level of versatility, competing hard against fellow ruck, Sean Darcy and impacting the scoreboard with four goals.

On the back of 22 goals from 23 games in his first season at the club last year, Jackson will now aim to use his pre-season form as a springboard to greater heights in 2024.

Speaking post-match, Brayshaw was full of praise for the tall’s quality of play.

“He’s been massive,” he said.

“Usually (he has played) against Sean, but it will be good to have them playing on the same team next weekend.

“His ability to go forward, impact on the scoreboard (and) impact in the air. He takes a lot of grabs and always follows up really strong like a midfielder.

“So he’s been another one who’s really impressed this pre-season.”

In a similar vein, new Docker Patrick Voss has felt the impact of Jackson’s presence both on and off field.

After joining Fremantle as a supplemental selection period signing on Monday, the former Bomber acknowledged the influence he has felt from the leadership of his fellow forwards.

Of this group, the former number 3 pick has been a central figure.

“A lot of the forwards; Matt Taberner, Luke Jackson, Sonny (Michael Walters), those sort of boys, the senior boys have helped me a lot,” Voss said after Friday’s intraclub match.

“(They have) made me feel comfortable in this environment. They’ve been awesome.”
