Brisbane Heat star Georgia Prestwidge is delighted to be celebrating the Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Fresh Round this week as her side returns to Mackay.

The Heat have been on the road for the entirety of the Women’s Big Bash League competition so far, and now travel to the region which she calls their “home away from home.”

“We’re super pumped. I think the Brisbane Heat has always had a really great time coming up to Mackay, the supporters here are second to none and they really get behind women’s cricket,” she said.

“We’ve been away from home for quite a while now, we got to sneak home for a week but we’re back on the road. The group is good and refreshed to go.

“Last time I played here I think there was about 4000 people.

“After the game we came out to sign some autographs and I think the girls were out there for about two hours after the game, because the locals were just so lovely and they wanted to have a chat.

“They were just so genuine and so supportive and women’s cricket.

“I feel like this is definitely our home away from home.”

Women’s cricket continues to grow as time goes on, and it comes as no surprise to Prestwidge.

“We always knew it was going to go this way. I guess the more televised games we have, the more girls can sit down and watch what they want to aspire to be,” she said.

“I’m not surprised that the growth is just increasing every year.”

Prestwidge added being a mentor to young girls is a big thing for her.

“It’s huge. When I was coming through, there was no kind of female team for me to go into, it wasn’t until I was actually in high school, I could join an all-female team,” she said.

“Being a role model for young girls and showing them what they can aspire to be and how to get there and have those real conversations with them, when we see them in Mackay will make a world of difference to their playing careers.”

This weekend marks the Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Fresh round, and it’s something that means a bit to Prestwidge.

“The Woolworths Pick Fresh, Play Fresh fixture is over November 13 and 14 and is about promoting healthy eating to kids and families and the benefits that healthy eating plays in energy, having fun and living a healthy lifestyle,” she said.

“It’s very, very important to teach this to kids and I, actually studying dietetics, so I’m very passionate about this background.

“I’m really glad that Woolworths is putting this round together as an extension of the promotion of good nutrition and healthy eating.”
