After some big additions to the playing squad, the Adelaide Strikers have added former Australian captain Tim Paine ahead of their BBL|13 campaign.
With all-rounder and two-time Player of the Tournament D’Arcy Short, paceman Brendan Doggett and all-rounder James Bazley, the Strikers are topping off their list with an excellent addition in new assistant coach Tim Paine who has recently retired from all forms of the game.
He has donned the purple of his local team the Hobart Hurricanes 44 times in the BBL and as a proud Tasmanian, he has contributed 1100 runs for the team. He has worn the Australian kit 82 times which includes 28 outings as captain.
Paine has also been announced as the assistant coach for Australia A for their tour against New Zealand A next week.
He is one of the most experienced players to have played for Australia with 400 professional appearances in his 18 year career. Tim Nielsen, the Strikers General Manager is eager to see Paine’s impact at the Strikers given his expertise.
“Tim is a great addition to our team and will help us in so many ways this season,” Nielsen said.
“A gifted keeper and Test level batter, Tim will be invaluable working with our players both in the field and with the bat. His ability to provide effective, direct feedback is top class and we really look forward to him getting up to Adelaide.”
Strikers Head Coach Jason Gillespie joins Nielsen in this sentiment, adding that Paine has ‘all the skills to be a fantastic coach’.
“It is so great for us that he has decided to join the Strikers as we hunt success this summer,” Gillespie said.
“The experience he will bring is sure to help our players in all facets of the game and bring more positive elements to the way we play.”
