Mid-court sensation Hulita Veve will return to the Firebirds on a full contract, being elevated from being a training partner in 2023.

Veve was a contracted Firebird in 2016, winning a premiership in the that time. She made an appearance in the purple dress in their Round 8 win during the league’s Pride Round this season.

A breakout performance at the most recent World Cup, Veve was a standout player in the tournament and captained Tonga Tala.

Veve is excited to be amongst the contracted 10 players for the Firebirds in 2024.

“It’s like a dream come true all over again,” Veve said.

“In 2016 I was young and inexperienced but loved every second. Eight years on and here I am, two children and a husband later and it’s the same dream that I have been chasing since I was 10 years old.

“I couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to be back in a purple dress for 2024.”

Head Coach Bec Bulley praises Veve’s leadership skills out on court as well as her skills displayed out on court.

“Hulita is a born competitor who brings defensive steel to the midcourt but can also use her vision and cool head to spark attacks,” Bulley said.

“As well as her considerable talents, Hulita is a terrific presence around the team and a proven leader as both the captain of her HART Sapphire Series team and internationally with Tonga.

“I know our fanbase will be delighted to welcome Hulita back to the team as a fulltime player in 2024 and I’m personally excited to have her in my squad for this season.”
