Zara Walters lands first Super Netball contract (Image: Geelong Netball)

Zara Walters is the final player to be announced as part of the 2024 Melbourne Vixens side, earning her first Super Netball contract.

The 20-year-old debuted for the Vic Fury in August this year, topping the tournament in feeds and goal assists. She is able to play both wing attack and centre, being consistent with the amount of possession of the ball.

Walters’ performance in the Australian Netball Championships solidified her a spot in the Australia Under 21 squad. She was also selected for the Under 19s and 17s squad in previous years.

The attacker has represented her state on multiple occasions, captaining them in the process. Walters captained the Under 17s state team in 2020 and Under 19s in 2022.

Walters plays for her home club in Colac in the south east of Victoria. She played for the Geelong Cougars in the Victorian Netball League since 2019, being the backbone in their midcourt.

“I am extremely grateful and excited to be a part of the Vixens in 2024. It’s a dream come true to be mentored by some of the best netballers in the world and play alongside them,” Walters said.

“I can’t wait to make the most of this opportunity and am looking forward to a successful year with the Vixens.”

“I’m always excited by the opportunity to coach emerging talent and Zara brings a lot of energy and speed to our midcourt group,” Head Coach Simone McKinnis said.

“Zara’s appetite for learning and growth is a credit to her, I’ve been really impressed with her efforts in our pathway programs over the past few years and I think she’s a great fit for our group.”
