After losing Maisie Nankivell to the Melbourne Mavericks, the Adelaide Thunderbirds have not lost anything, signing experienced midcouter Laura Scherian.

Adding versatility and experience to their midcourt rotation, the Thunderbirds fans will be buoyed by the addition of Scherian. She plays centre and wing attack, which will allow Georgie Horjus to spend more time in the goal circle, where she is arguably more potent.

She is a two-time SSN premiership player with her former club, the Sunshine Coast Lightning and an Australian Diamond (178). Scherian debuted for the Diamonds in 2019, and has accrued four test caps in the green and gold.

Starting her Australia domestic career in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era, Scherian played for the AIS Canberra Darters from 2007 before the Suncorp Super Netball’s inception.

In 2010, she was signed by the Queensland Firebirds for the ANZ Championship season. In the inaugural season of the SSN, Scherian joined the Sunshine Coast Lightning where she won two consecutive premierships (2017 and 2018).

This season, Scherian played 14 games and notched up her 100th national league game in their Round Three match.

Pitre Bourdon, the Thunderbirds High Performance Manager spoke about Scherian’s experience and work-rate being key draw cards in ensuring her signature.

“Laura is among the league’s most experienced midcourters and her work rate is second to none,” Bourdon said.

“She has proven to be versatile across wing attack and centre throughout her playing career, recording over 1000 Super Netball assists.

“We look forward to welcoming Laura to the Thunderbirds family and can’t wait to start working with her.
