Adelaide United winger Nestory Irankunda has agreed to a “club-record fee” that will see him join German powerhouse Bayern Munich next July.

This means that the 17-year-old will remain in Hindmarsh for the remainder of the 2023/24 A-League season where he has taken the world by storm.

In his 38-game tenure for the Reds, Irankunda has scored nine goals – the most by a player under the age of 20 in A-League history.

The youngster says while he is excited to play for a world-class club, he is eternally grateful for the opportunity that Adelaide United provided him.

“I’m happy to have this all finalised and to be heading to one of the best clubs in the world — it’s a real dream come true,” he says.

“It’s going to be great to be able to see out the season with Adelaide United and try and have some success.

“The coaches have looked after me and taught me so much, my teammates have always had my back and the members and fans have been so good to me, so I hope to be able to help repay that before I move.”

The Tanzanian-born winger is unable to move to Bayern until July 2024 due to his age, which Adelaide United CEO, Nathan Kosmina, says will give the club plenty of opportunity to witness Irankunda in action.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Nestory and his family for him to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he said.

“Given Nestory’s age, he will not complete his transfer until July 2024, which gives our members and fans a great opportunity to see one of the world’s brightest young talents play at Coopers Stadium for the entirety of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2023/24 season.”

Adelaide United play their final regular season game against the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on April 26.
