As the main event for Night 1 of WrestleMania 37 was about to begin in front of a live audience for the first time in one year, one month, and one day, both defending SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and challenger Bianca Belair were overcome with emotion.
It wasn’t just about the world title fight they were about to embark on. It was the first time two African-American women faced off for a world title in the main event on the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’.
Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair defeated Sasha Banks to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion in a night that will be remembered as one of the greatest title fights in recent memory.
“It takes two and we made history, we did this together,” Belair said.
“I just felt honoured to be the person in that position across from Sasha Banks and be in the Main Event of WrestleMania.”
After making history, the EST of WWE said having the crowd back in the stands made the event so special.
“Being able to hear a crowd for the first time in over a year was the best sound that I could imagine,” Belair said.
“Our job is to put smiles on fans faces and the fans really make the moments what they are.
“It just gave me so much energy and so much adrenaline.”

Belair’s reign has just started as the SmackDown Women’s Champion, but she already has her sights set on new goals.
“I want to be a fighting Champion, I’ve been an athlete my whole life and I love competition,” Belair said.
“The only way to prove that you’re the best is to keep going up against the best, so I want Sasha Banks to get a rematch right away.
“I pinned Bayley right before the Royal Rumble and now I pinned Sash Banks, so I’ve pinned two of the Four Horsewomen, and my goal is to eventually pin all four of them.
“I feel like I’m at the forefront of a new generation and you’ve got to lead.”
Earlier, Sasha Banks knew the magnitude of the match going into WrestleMania 37.
“This is crazy because it’s bigger than me, and I think that’s what the beautiful thing is,” Banks said before the fight.
