Football Australia’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee has handed down a three-match suspension to Melbourne City midfielder, Tolgay Arslan today.

Arslan was referred directly to the committee after being cited for using “offensive, insulting, or abusive language and/or gestures against a match official”.

Having already served one match of that suspension last weekend when City went down 5-1 to Brisbane Roar, Arslan will now miss the grudge match against Melbourne Victory and their trip to Sydney to face the Sky Blues in round 18.

Arslan has seven days to inform Football Australia if he wishes to appeal the decision to an independent appeals committee.

The suspension is a big blow to City, who have already lost four of their past five encounters.

Last Saturday’s demolition at the hands of Brisbane Roar won’t do any favours for their confidence as they head into the weekend’s Melbourne Derby outside of the top six.

The German has been a revelation for City with five goals and five assists so far in the campaign and attempting to regain their form will be an even harder task without Arslan on the pitch.

That fixture against the Victory will be played on Saturday night at AAMI Park.
