The Inner Sanctum has put together a team of the week comprised of the best performing players that took part in Round 22 of the A-League Men season.
Gameweek 22 of the A-League Men’s season gave us some really special games and even better individual performances, with the likes of Beka Mikeltadze, Marco Rojas, and Adama Le Fondre being the prime examples.
This is who made the cut for our Team of the Week – Round 22…
Goalkeeper and defenders
GK: Oliver Sail (Wellington Phoenix)
Sail was once again one of Wellington’s best performers in their game against Western United, pulling off some incredible saves to keep his team ahead.
RB: Dane Ingham (Newcastle Jets)
Ingham played his best game in a Jets shirt against Perth on Sunday. The New-Zealand international picked up an assist for Beka’s second goal and won the penalty which gave the Georgian the chance to finish his hat-trick.
CB: Isaias Sanchez (Adelaide United)
Forced to start as a centre-back due to Adelaide’s injury problems, the Spanish veteran played as he has always been one. His smart passing helped his team to progress the ball from the back, while his controlled aggression and experience made him the perfect partner for the young Popovic.
CB: Scott Wootton (Wellington Phoenix)
After a few shaky performances, Wootton put in a real shift against Western United. The former Manchester United youth product opened the scoring for the Nix with a good header which gave his teammates the boost they needed.
LB: Jason Davidson (Melbourne Victory)
Marauding down the left flank of AAMI Park, Davidson chipped in with another assist for Victory in the Derby, and his link-up play with Folami was one of the main weapons for Popovic’s side.

Midfielders
DM: Rai Marchan (Melbourne Victory)
Marchan was absolutely exceptional in the Derby, winning possession time and time again, alongside Brillante, and dictating the play from his deep midfield role.
CM: Gael Sandoval (Wellington Phoenix)
Ufuk Talay pulled a rabbit out of the hat with his decision to move Sandoval to the center of midfield. The Mexican maestro scored one and assisted one, with his pace in transition, in particular, being a real nuisance for United’s defenders.
RM: Marco Rojas (Melbourne Victory)
Rojas put in a performance for the ages in the Melbourne Derby. The “Kiwi Messi” scored two brilliant goals past Tom Glover in the first half, which proved to be the winners in one of the biggest games in Australian football.
LM: Daniel Penha (Newcastle Jets)
Being on the wrong end of a potential leg-breaking challenge didn’t stop Penha from scoring a brace and making the Inner Sanctum’s Team of the Week yet again.
Forwards
ST: Adam Le Fondre (Sydney FC)
Le Fondre almost singlehandedly won the game for Sydney FC at Central Coast Stadium, scoring a hat-trick and providing a beautiful assist for Anthony Caceres’ goal.
ST: Beka Mikeltadze (Newcastle Jets)
What better partner for Le Fondre in attack than another hat-trick hero. Mikeltadze treated the fans at McDonald Jones Stadium to a special display, scoring three very well taken goals which took him to 12 for the season.
